The street food hub near VOC Park, Coimbatore is one among the 4 vibrant street food areas in Tamil Nadu chosen by the Union Government to receive upgradation at a cost of Rs.1 crore each through its Healthy and Hygienic Food Street initiative under the National Health Mission. 

Rs. 1 crore is allotted to Coimbatore for undertaking this project, and as per reports the first phase of works under this initiative have commenced. 

According to sources, 20 outlets, each at 330 sq.ft area with needed amenities will be built first, and they will be auctioned. The area will have adequate water, toilet, waste disposal, lighting and seating facilities.

These works which began recently are expected to be over in 3 months. Post the first phase, the City Corporation and District Administration are expected to propose for additional outlets.

Elliot’s beach in Chennai, Velankanni street food hub and the Temple street food shops at Mamallapuram are the others in the list.
