Extension of platform shelters is going on full swing at Mettupalayam and Podanur Railway Stations. The extended platform shelters will provide convenience for more number of passengers, railway officials said. 

Both the stations are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme of the Indian Government, and they are set to get many modern features too.

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ broadly envisages the facilities such as Improvement of station approaches, circulating area, parking; Improvement of station facade, illumination; Improved waiting halls, toilets; Provision of high-level platforms, improvement of surfaces and increase in platform cover; Provision of lift/escalators; Facilities for Divyangjan (Differently-abled); Executive lounges, Meeting Places & Free WiFi; Booths for One Station One Product project; Roof Plazas with station buildings as per phasing and feasibility; Creation of city centers at the stations in long term and plans to merge waiting halls and enhance cafeteria/retail options.

It must be mentioned that 1309 stations nationwide will be redeveloped as part of this scheme.
