Coimbatore District Basketball Association (CDBA) along with Coimbatore Corporation began upgrading the Coimbatore District Basketball Court in March this year at a cost of Rs.95 lakhs reportedly, under Tamil Nadu Government’s ‘Nammaku Naame’ scheme, and the works are nearing its final stage now.
Balaji, Secretary, CDBA shared that the 2 basketball courts and the gallery have been brought under a giant roof structure.
The backboards, the posts and the rings are getting a makeover. 50 LED lights will hang from the ceiling to make playing/practicing in the evening brighter. The whole court section will get acrylic paint works with basketball themes.
All the works will be completed very soon and the court will be ready to host 2 All-India level tournaments - 57th Nachimuthu Gounder Trophy for Men and the 21st CRI Pumps Trophy for Women from June 5th to 9th this year.
“CDBA bore 51% of the total cost to upgrade this facility while the government bore 49%. We had to spend some more beyond the planned budget so that we could improve other amenities especially the toilet blocks,” Balaji said.
“The gents and ladies’ washrooms have also been upgraded and both have separate sections for differently-abled persons. (This was one of the long-pending demands by the players and it is getting fulfilled). All works will be completed quickly without compromising on the quality,” he added.
