Sources said on Wednesday that Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has recommended the Coimbatore Corporation to establish a Waste to Energy Incineration plant to dispose the untreated fresh waste generated in the city.
A report mentions that out of the 1100+ tonnes of waste generated by the city every day, close to 250 tonnes of fresh waste are being sent to the dumpyard in Vellalore. Hence, TNPCB has recommended this measure to manage the garbage. Besides recommending CCMC to set up WTE plant, TNPCB has also asked the corporation to improve its door-to-door collection of garbage activity and create more decentralized waste processing facilities.
Yesterday, Coimbatore Corporation Mayor Ranganayaki held a discussion with Corporation Officials and she enquired about the stagnation of garbage in the city. The officials conveyed that some of the garbage collection vehicles are being repaired and that could be a key reason for the stagnation. The Mayor ordered the officials to rectify the issues fast and ensure that garbage does stagnate anywhere.
