During the event at the latter venue, he said that in 1-2 months, the State Government will launch a new scheme to provide cancer screening to people aged 18 and above in all districts.

Sharing more about this, the Minister said that the Chief Minister had asked the Health & Family Welfare Department to come up with strong measures that can help identify cancer impact on people in Tamil Nadu at an early stage.

“Community-based screening for cancer detection was held in 4 districts in Tamil Nadu – Erode, Tirupathur, Ranipetai and Kanya Kumari a year ago for people aged 18 and above. So far, 109 persons were found to have cancer in these districts through these screenings,” the Minister said.

The Chief Minister had told the department 4 months ago to come up with a scheme through which such cancer screening support could be provided to all who are above 18 years of age. An initial fund of Rs. 26 crore was also allotted by the Government to hold mass screenings.

The Health Department, according to the Minister, will launch such a scheme in 1-2 months in all the districts, and it will form a system to call all who are 18+ in a phased manner to attend the screening.
