Sri Ramakrishna Hospital (SRH)held an external disaster mockdrill near Coimbatore Central RTO office to evaluate the preparedness of its medical teams that handle causalities.
In this mockdrill, a bus carrying 21 passengers and a driver was showcased involving in a road accident while trying to evade an oncoming speeding vehicle. All the passengers were shown suffering various levels of injuries.
Ambulances were deployed immediately to the site after a phone call was made to SRH by one of the public. Various medical teams performed first aid and triaged (analyzing which victims with injuries should be taken to hospital first via ambulance).
The City Traffic Police were alerted and proper road-assistance, in terms of traffic management was provided. The Press and Media also arrived on scene to cover the event, and adequate media management was shown to be made during the drill.
It was conveyed by the medical team that the patients taken in the ambulance will be re-triaged at the hospital, and depending on their conditions they will be taken to Operation Theaters, Surgical Ward, Scan OPDs,Scans and in some cases to the mortuary.
3 ambulances, 30 response-staff at the accident site and 30 at the hospital were utilized in the drill.
Regarding this mockdrill, the doctors from SRH said that this activity will be very useful for their internal training.
They added that this drill can also alert the public on how they can quickly save lives by reporting accidents faster.
