Sri Ramakrishna Hospital conducted an External Disaster Mock-drill in on 10-10-2024 at 10 AM in Coimbatore Railway station. Sri Ramakrishna Hospital conducts mock drills every year to ensure that the staff of the hospital are prepared to deal with such emergency situations. This drill had twenty eight passengers and two loco pilots involved in a train accident that caused the disaster. This mock-drill was designed to help the staff and hospital to stay alert and be prepared in handling mass casualties by conducting an efficient triage process.This mock drill highlighted the concept of “Golden Hour” which is crucial in saving lives during an emergency situation, where the care is provided within the first hour of impact.As soon as the hospital received a call from Coimbatore Railway station regarding the external emergency situation, “Code Yellow” was announced and Emergency response team including Site Recovery Medical Team, Internal Triage Team, Cordon Team, Salvage Team, and Patient Information / Media Management Team were deployed. The Site Recovery Medical Team immediately reached the Railway station and provided first-aid to the people in need while triaging them accordingly. One after the other, injured were shifted to the hospital where the Internal Triage Team re-triaged the injured in the emergency and shifted them accordingly to provide emergency care and further treatment. After re-triaging, six victims (Red Triage- high priority) were shifted from Emergency to ICU, two Antenatal victims (Red Triage- high priority) were shifted to Gynaecology ward, two victims (Red Triage- high priority) were shifted to Operation Theater, ten victims (Yellow Triage) were shifted to Surgical ward for evaluation, five victims (Green Triage- Safe) were shifted to Surgical OPD, three victims (Green Triage- Safe) were shifted to Ortho OPD, and two (Black Triage) - brought dead victims from the emergency site were shifted to Mortuary. 

The Cordon team assisted in efficiently shifting the victims to their respective wards and the Salvage team took care of the patients in their designated areas. The entire mock-drill was recorded. At the end, Chief Executive Officer C. V. Ramkumar, Medical Director Dr. S. Rajagopal, Medical Superintendent Dr. S. Alagappan, Emergency Medicine Consultants Dr. Manjunath and Dr. Parthiban briefed the media personnel about the disaster mock drill. Deputy Commisssioner of Police Dr. Stalin IPS, visited the traige area along with his team.

The Divisional Safety Officer Aakash Verma, Coimbatore Station Director Sachin Kumar, Coaching Depot Officer Anuj Rathore, Assistant Security Commissioner K. V. Rathish Kumar, Station Manager Sreedharan and Deputy Station Manager (Commercial) S. Sathish , personnel from Railway Protection Force and other staffs of Coimbatore Railway station took active part in this disaster mock drill. Prior permission from the Southern Railway –Salem Division and Coimbatore City Police department were obtained to conduct this mock drill.

Necessary posters were displayed at the Railway station mentioning that this was an awareness event to avoid panic among the public. 

The Emergency Medicine Consultants from Sri Ramakrishna Hospital provided CPR Training to Coimbatore Railway Station personnel. This external mock-drill is a part of Sri Ramakrishna Hospital’s on-going commitment to maintain highest standards of emergency care, focusing on saving lives during such unfortunate critical events while adhering to the NABH regulations to conduct such mock-drills on External disaster management every year.
