Preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the renovation Gandhipuram Central Bus Stand is underway. Coimbatore Corporation is in plans to renovate this station at a cost of Rs. 30 crore.

A team from IIT-Madras inspected the station along with Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran on December 9th. This team is reportedly working to prepare the DPR for the renovation of this station.

As one of the busiest bus stations in the city, it handles at least 30,000 passengers everyday and close to 50 buses leave the station every hour. Hence, reducing congestion, improved parking infrastructure and essential facilities such a dedicated toilets for drivers, clean and modern toilet facilities for passengers, proper roads, water facilities have been requested from the stakeholders' side.

The DPR for the project is being prepared. People in the know said that a survey of the existing bus stand and the shops in the premises were studied. The report is expected to be submitted soon for the final sanction.

It must be mentioned that 2 bus stands at Ukkadam are also going to come up in the near future.
