National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will take over the maintenance of L&T bypass in Coimbatore from tomorrow, a reliable report said. However L&T will continue to collect toll on behalf of NHAI for the next 2 months starting from April.

The company will deposit the collected toll money in NHAI's accounts while the authority will provide the maintenance fee to the company during this transition period. A proposal is getting ready to retain only one of the 6 toll plaza in this 28 km bypass. So from June 1 onwards the toll plaza at Madukkarai alone could function, if the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) provide its approval for that. The possibility of expanding the two-lane bypass to a four-lane or six-lane road will surely increase since NHAI is set to take over it a lot earlier.
