Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi who is Coimbatore to chair a review meeting felicitated 3 govt-run school students who created sensor-based smart walking stick and eye-gear for the visually impaired.

K.Issac Jebakumar, R.Marudheesh and J.Veeramani, 3 students  pursuing 7th grade in a government-run school in Coimbatore’s Arasur made this inventions and presented them in a science –tech competition held in Coimbatore by a private college and earned 2nd prize. Their innovation was widely reported in News Channels, Press and Media, and the students received applause from academic circles.

The students said that one of their project - Smart walking stick for visually challenged will make such individuals move independently without seeking others’ aid. The ultrasonic sensor provided in the stick will look for obstacle ahead and it will send a warning sound to alert the walker.

"We have used a Tinkercad Arduino software for building this stick. The components used are ultrasonic distance sensor, Arduino UNOr3 micro controller board, a buzzer, and a 9v battery.We made this stick in a week. Similar components were used for smart goggles," the trio said.
The students said that they will make such a product for people with hearing issues next time.

The minister also appreciated the students of Gandhima Nagar Government High School who won the first place in the state-level drama competition organized by the State Educational Research & Training Institute and qualified for the national-level competition.

The students Krishnan, Kuganeshwaran, Tarunkumar, Jessica John, and Laksana along with their teacher Rojalin Crystal Selvi were appreciated. Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran, School Education Department officials were present during the felicitation.
