Kurichi – Kuniyamuthur UGD project works to conclude by January end; operation to commence from Feb!

The majority of Underground Drainage (UGD) works at Kurichi – Kuniyamuthur stretch in Coimbatore city is all set to be finished by the end of January this year. The City Corporation is planning to commence its operation from next month, a report said.
The Kurichi – Kuniyamuthur UGD project works began in 2018 and was originally scheduled for completion in 2021 but due to the lockdown induced by covid-19 pandemic and other hiccups, the project kept moving at a snail’s pace.
Implemented by Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD), this Rs.591 crore worth project, upon its completion will benefit Coimbatore Corporation wards 87 to 100 that are loacated in the South Zone. Installing pipelines in railway-owned lands was a challenge and it will be completed by this month. All works related to this project will be finished by the end of January and the system will become operational in February.
Besides the Kurichi – Kuniyamuthur stretch, UGD works are also going on at Vellakinar – Saravanampatti stretch; Thudiyalur-Kavundampalayam –Veerakeralam stretch and at Ondipudur. Sources shared that TWAD has set 2026 as the target year to complete the UGD projects taking place at Ondipudur and Thudiyalur-Kavundampalayam –Veerakeralam stretch.
