CRISPR-Cas9 is a laboratory tool that allows scientists to edit DNA in a cell. This tool is faster, cheaper, and more accurate than previous DNA editing techniques. It has many applications in the field of medicinal science and research.

The PG and Research Department of Biotechnology, Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore and University of Westminster, London, United Kingdom are jointly organizing a 3- day International Workshop on CRISPR/Cas 9 Technology in Coimbatore from Monday onwards.

The conference is on the theme CRISPR/Cas 9 Technology - An Evolution of 21st Century Health and Environmental Sustainability.

This Workshop is primarily intended to explore CRISPR principles, and perform gene editing and to analyse its expression in human cells. The workshop was inaugurated by C.A. Vasuki, Secretary and Director, KASC& Dr.Kalpana Sudrendranath, Reader in Genome Engineering, University of Westminster, London, the chief guest.

B Vishnupriya, Assistant Professor and Head (i/c) Department of Biotechnology,briefed about the workshop and its objectives. In her inaugural address the chief guest, Dr.Kalpana shared her journey in CRISPR & Genome Editing. She also propagated the numerous vistas in this field.
