More than 252 mobile phones that were lost by their owners in Coimbatore District limits were recovered by the police, and they were handed over to them on Thursday.
A portion of the 250+ smartphones were missed by their owners while another portion was stolen by crooks. The total value of these phones are more than Rs.48 lakhs. Coimbatore District (Rural) Superintendent of Police K.Karthikeyan IPS handed over the lost/stolen to their respective owners during a meeting held at Coimbatore District Police Office.
K.Karthikeyan IPS appealed to mobile users to be careful when they use their mobile in the public places. He cautioned that crooks may take advantage of mobile users' carelessness.
"Should you miss or get your cellphones stolen, kindly visit Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal and fill out the details about the phones such as IMEI No. and other required info. This will help police track the missing phones. Whenever someone switches those phones on and inserts SIM cards in them, we will be alerted. That is how we tracked and recovered these phones here," the SP said.
It must be mentioned that filing a case with the concerned jurisdiction police station is also important for quick recovery of the lost/stolen cellphone.
