Reliable reports state that the plan to build a 2.4 kilometer-long flyover at Sathyamangalam Road a.k.a Sathy Road in Coimbatore city has been dropped by the State Highways Department.

The flyover project at Sathy Road was first announced in the financial year 2021-22, and the state highways wing had sent a proposal to the Central Government regarding the same.

The Centre had given approval to prepare DPR for this project in the same year but before the DPR for the flyover could be made, the State government said that a 16-km. long elevated corridor for the metro is coming at Sathy Road. Hence the flyover works were kept on hold for quite some time.

Sources said on Wednesday that this project has been dropped, and instead of constructing a flyover, the authorities have decided to widen the 3.4 km road from Textool flyover to Prozone Mall at Sathy road.

The works are expected to commence shortly.
