An initiative to plant 10,000 native saplings in a new plantation site in the city was jointly taken up by HCL Foundation and popular NGO Siruthuli recently on the occasion of the 47th HCL Day.

The saplings will be planted in a new plantation site in the Central Training College of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Coimbatore. Already 20,000 saplings were planted on a different site inside the campus and it has given good results according to IGP of CRPF, Ajay Bharatan.

Ajay Bharatan said, “The campus came into being in 1996 and it was bereft of any green vegetation. With the help of CSR donors, Non-governmental organisations and our CRPF commandants, the CTC Camp has revived and restored its greenery and one can observe the change in micro-climate when compared with the Coimbatore city.”

A press release said that 20,000 native trees were planted earlier in the CRPF college and it has significantly improved the air quality and humidity of the region over the last 2 years.

The new plantation site will see 10,000 new native saplings being planted on an area of around 7 acres by the end of FY23-24. This too will be based on the Miyawaki model and it is aimed at increasing the urban lung spaces in a short span of time.

20+ volunteers from HCL Tech and State Street-Coimbatore, Siruthuli staff and 150+ CRPF personnel took part in the plantation drive. Siruthuli will plant, nurture and maintain the saplings for 3 years with the support of HCLF & CRPF.
