Three students pursuing 7th grade in a government-run school in Coimbatore’s Arasur region have invented sensor-based walking stick and eye-gear for the visually impaired, using simple tools and materials in the school’s laboratory.
K.Issac Jebakumar, R.Marudheesh and J.Veeramani said that their sensor-based walking stick will identify the vibrations on ground and look for obstacles ahead of the user’s path and will alert him.
The eye-wear on the other hand is also powered by sensors and micro-controller, and it will caution the user about the obstacles in the form of sound alerts. The trio are in plans to enhance the walking stick and eye-gear through A.I. and Google Maps, a report said.
