The District Forest Department on Monday assured the farmers to take steps to provide compensation to them for the loss of their crops due to straying of wild life including elephants and wild boars.
Responding to a memorandum submitted by BJP Agricultural Wing President, G.K. Nagaraj, the District Forest Officer, Ashok Kumar said that a meeting will be convened with the two member committee formed by the Government for culling and shooting them down to control the wild boars, with farmers.
Steps can be taken depending on the outcome of the meeting, Nagaraj said in a release here.
In the memorandum, Nagaraj said that the farm lands and agricutlural crops in Thondamuthu, Karamadai and Periyanaickenpalayam in the district were destroyed by wild animals, especally wild boars moving around these arean in a herd, resulting in heavy loss to the farmers.
The department should take immediate steps to use guns to control them movement of the wild boars, for the survival of farmers in these areas, as crops like tapioca and plaintain and coconut saplings were damaged, he said.
Nagaraj has sought adequate compensation to the farmers, who had lost their crops and also provide training to the youths to control its movement, Nagaraj said.
