Farmers explained about Bee-keeping and its significance in farming

A lecture cum demonstration program was held for 80+ farmers in rural parts of Coimbatore on Beekeeping by Kongunadu Arts and Science College recently.
The program was conducted in the Jakkarpalayam village of Kinathukadavu block, Coimbatore district, and it had the participation of 86 farmers and members from woman self-help groups.
The importance of integrated farming in terms of revenue generation and eco-friendly farming practices was explained to them by P.Gomathi, Scientist at ICAR-KVK.
Demonstration on the methods of beekeeping, the tools used in beekeeping, and the role of the honey bees in the ecosystem like pollination which eventually leads to the production of highly viable and vigor seeds in crop production was made by S. Rajeshkumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, Kongunadu Arts and Science College.
A local bee-farm runner, Mr. Manikandakalidas, also demonstrated the common practice followed in beekeeping.
This session,‘Beekeeping an integrated farming practice for Sustainable Development’ was held jointly by Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Indian Science Congress Association, Coimbatore Chapter, ICAR-KVK (KrishiVigyan Kendra), Karamadai, Coimbatore and Marutham Honey Bee farm, Nallampalayam.
