JioStar, the joint venture between Reliance Industries and the Walt Disney Company, launched its new streaming platform, JioHotstar, on February 14, marking the merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar.

The platform brings together a vast library of films, series, and live sports, with the company aiming to redefine the streaming experience by offering free access to most content for a limited number of hours each month, while Hollywood films remain behind a paywall.

JioHotstar will also serve as a hub for international content from Disney, NBC Universal’s Peacock, Warner Bros., Discovery, HBO, and Paramount, further expanding its offerings.

A major focus of JioHotstar will be sports streaming, with the platform securing live streaming rights for several major ICC cricket events, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), Women’s Premier League (WPL), and various domestic tournaments.

Apart from cricket, the platform will feature coverage of the English Premier League (EPL), Wimbledon, Pro Kabaddi League, and the Indian Super League (ISL), positioning itself as a comprehensive destination for sports enthusiasts.

As for subscription plans, existing Disney+ Hotstar users will continue with their current plans, which include the Mobile plan at Rs.149, Super plan at Rs.299, and Premium (Ad-Free) plan at Rs.349 for three months.

Meanwhile, JioCinema Premium subscribers will be migrated to JioHotstar Premium for the remaining duration of their subscriptions, and JioCinema users will be automatically upgraded to premium access.
