To reduce the traffic congestion at Saravanampatti in Coimbatore, the National Highways Wing of the State Highways planned to build a flyover there in 2023. As the Sathy Road Corridor, which is one of the two routes under the Phase 1 of proposed Coimbatore Metro Rail Project, passes through Saravanampatti, the plan to build a flyover at the same area was halted.

However, multiple reports confirm that the authorities of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) have now decided to construct a double-decker flyover at Saravanampatti. This move will allow seamless integration of both infrastructure projects and will make the land acquisition for both project easier.

The metro rail will run on the upper level and other usual vehicles will pass on the lower level of the double-decker flyover. CMRL will handle this project, under which the pillars for the double-decker flyover will be first installed. Post the installation of pillars, the National Highways Department will oversee the construction of lower-level portions, while the Metro Rail Administration will execute the upper-level portions.

A tender for this project is expected to be floated soon.
