Coimbatore South Development Federation (CSDF) has made an appeal to all Councillors of Coimbatore Corporation to stand with it in its demand to resume the halted Vellalore Integrated Bus Terminus Project.
The project that began in 2020 during the ADMK regime at a 61 acre land in Vellalore got halted during Covid and it did not resume since then. Approximately Rs. 52 crore has been spent on this project and 40% of work is over.
But recently, the corporation announced that it is in plans to shift markets in Coimbatore City and a lorry yard in Ukkadam to the bus stand site to reduce traffic congestion taking place in the city. A resolution too was passed during the Corporation Council's meet on Monday (30.12.24).
However, this conversion plan was not well received by the residents of Vellalore. K.S. Mohan, Coordinator of Vellalore Integrated Bus Terminus Revival Committee and member of the Coimbatore South Development Federation said on Monday that the federation condemns Coimbatore Corporation's plans to convert the existing structure of the Bus Terminus into a lorry yard, a wholesale vegetable & fruit market, and urged it to first conduct a public hearing regarding this plan at Vellalore.
CSDF has also requested all the councilors to support their demand to revive the Bus Terminus Project, as this project could unlock growth opportunities for the Southern part of Coimbatore. CSDF has urged them to voice for revival of Vellalore Bus Stand Project during upcoming council meetings.
