Coimbatore has had many avatars; being often referred in the media as the cotton city, industrial city and pump city.
If reports and information are to be believed, we may soon see Coimbatore as a major IT hub and as the hot destination for all range of IT players in a very few years.
The recruitment activity by companies is going steady here because the availability of talents here is plenty, and cost of real estate is considered to be affordable.
A report from Randstad Talent Trends says that among the tier-2 cities, Chandigarh, Vadodara, Indore, Coimbatore, Kochi and Trivandrum are emerging in importance as employment hubs in IT.
At the senior level, Coimbatore leads with 37.86% of the IT jobs among tier-II cities.
Times of India reported that hiring in tier two cities has picked up in the last two months, with Coimbatore topping the recruitment chart once again in May 2022, surpassing growth numbers witnessed by top metro cities in India, according to data analysed by the Monster Employment Index.
The New Indian Express mentioned that Vinit Teredesai, Chief Financial Officer, Mindtree, in an earnings call said, “We are also trying to look at getting some talent in tier-II, III cities like Coimbatore, which would help us in terms of not only managing the demand, but also managing the attrition. These cities are traditionally having lower attrition rates compared to some of the tier-I cities."
Coimbatore already has several major international and nationally acclaimed IT players, and it will soon see the arrival of Infosys at SVB Tech Park, Kalapatti.
This is the 7th IT Park in the city and it was inaugurated recently, and Amazon and Deloitte could be among the early occupants of this IT Park.
Sources added that global technology consulting and IT services company Mindtree, Accenture, TCS, Mahindra IT, HCL will either expand their operations or build new offices in the city.
Mindtree MD and CEO Debashis Chatterjee reportedly said “As part of our ‘Work of the Future’ talent strategy, we are also tapping into tier-II&-III cities and setting up offices in Coimbatore and Warangal. The idea is to take work to talent instead of bringing talent to work. These cities have a vibrant educational ecosystem and are great reservoirs of talent. The response from talent in these cities looking to associate with us without having to relocate has been overwhelming."
Meanwhile reports state that Medical transcription company Wave Online Infoway will acquire an additional space in India Land Techpark in Keeranatham.
Other companies like legal consultancy services provider Consilio is expected to land on the city by 2023, Dlux Tech Private Limited is also expected to setup a new unit in TIDEL Park in the near future.
