Coimbatore Marathon 2023 makes history in Covai, witnesses overwhelming participation!

18,500+ runners taking part in a marathon in Coimbatore is a gargantuan figure but not for the extremely popular and premier running event of the city - Coimbatore Marathon organized by Coimbatore Cancer Foundation and recognised by Tamil Nadu Athletic Association.
The 11th edition of the Marathon, majorly sponsored by Walkaroo and powered by ELGi Equipments took place this morning in the city with 18,500+ participants running in the event.
Coimbatore District Collector Kranti Kumar, DIG-West Zone Saravana Sundar, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan, Chandeesh, Deputy Commissioner - Coimbatore North and former DGP of Tamil Nadu Sylendara Babu flagged off the various sections of the Marathon and took part in it.
The Coimbatore Marathon was conceived as a platform to raise awareness about cancer and support the Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF). Over the years, this event has become synonymous with cancer awareness in the region.
The proceeds from the marathon have helped CCF expand its various activities, such as screening, counseling, and support groups, ensuring essential services are accessible to a greater number of individuals.
In addition, the proceeds have also helped enhance the monetary aid provided to cancer patients, encompassing surgical procedures, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, diagnostic tests, hospital fees, and rehabilitation services.
14,594 men and 3,947 women form the total participants in the marathon. The participants have come from 17 states.
There were a dozen participants from Canada, The Netherlands and the USA. 81% of the participants are from Coimbatore.
The total prize money this year is Rs.4.25 lakh.
