Coimbatore Junction expected to receive huge upgrade worth Rs. 700 crore - report

A Consultant for the Southern Railways is preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to upgrade the Coimbatore Junction at a cost of Rs.700 crore.
The plan includes vertical expansion of the Railway Junction building and no lands will be acquired. Several floors will be added in the current Junction area with Air-conditioning and many modern amenities.
Sources reported that there will be a shopping complex within the junction for the visitors convenience.
A meeting to discuss this plan was held by the Southern Railway Officials on Friday, and it included the participation of District Collector Kranthi Kumar, City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan, DCP-Traffic Mathivanan.
Police Commissioner Balakrishnan proposed that the consultant should visit the city first and assess the ground situation with the Police while DCP-Traffic Mathivanan expressed that a public hearing should be held before the execution of the project.
