Coimbatore Corporation has floated tenders for the renovation of Ukkadam Bus Stand and construction of a new one in a vacant land opposite to Ukkadam Police Station (near Perur Bypass) at a cost of Rs.21.55 crore.

Chief Minister M.K.Stalin, during his visit to Coimbatore on March 13, 2024 announced various development projects for the city. One of the major announcements was the renovation of Ukkadam Bus Stand (which was partly demolished for the Ukkadam - Athupalam Flyover works by the State Highways Department). He said that this will be renovated at a cost of Rs.20 crore. The Corporation prepared a DPR for this project, and now it has floated tenders for the same. The tender covers should be submitted before 3 p.m., December 17, 2024. The covers will be opened on December 18, 2024 at 4 p.m.

Renovation works will take place at an area measuring 2156.06 sq.mt in the old bus stand site while a new bus stand will be built at the site chosen near Perur Bypass on an area measuring 2813.31 sq.mt., a report mentioned. Both bus stands will get modern amenities along with washrooms, commercial establishments, parking etc.

Sources hinted that there are chances for the new bus stand to operate the buses of TNSTC, KSRTC along with Pvt.mofussil buses to Palani, Udumalpet, Pollachi, Palakkad, Thrissur and other parts of Kerala. These were operated earlier from the previously existing bus stand. Sources also said that since the bus stands would be on either side of the NH road, a subway to connect the two bus terminals to help commuters cross the road is also expected to come up there.
