The soon-to-start flight service from Coimbatore to Abu Dhabi may have some hiccups as it is yet to attract enough passengers to Coimbatore from Abu Dhabi, a news report quoting aviation enthusiasts mentioned on Monday.

Gurgaon-headquartered airline, Indigo is set to commence direct flight service that will connect Abu Dhabi and Coimbatore from August 10th. The service will be provided thrice a week by the airline (Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays).

While bookings for the Coimbatore to Abu Dhabi flight is good; according to a report by popular Tamil daily Hindu Tamil Thisai, the bookings to Coimbatore from Abu Dhabi is in single digits so far.

Operating the 180-seater plane to Coimbatore from Abu Dhabi will become profitable for the airline if more number of people fly to the second largest city in Tamil Nadu from the capital of United Arab Emirates. There is also a request from a section of flyers to make this a permanent service.

Yes, Coimbatore can retain this flight service!

When Air Arabia started providing service between Sharjah and Coimbatore in 2007, it offered the service twice a week, at least till 2020. After occupancy rates increased to greater levels, it increased the frequency from twice a week to thrice in August 2021. It was made a weekly-quadruple service in September and then a weekly-quintuple one in October 2021.

Similarly, Coimbatore can not just retain this new service but also witness an increase in frequency in its own time. However direct access to Coimbatore from Abu Dhabi should be promoted well in the middle-east, and this needs the support of the industry fraternity and Travel agencies.
