In today’s fast-paced technological landscape, companies seek efficiency from their talent pool. Traditional, cumbersome processes often consume significant time and energy.

Generative A.I. services like Amazon Q Developer are revolutionizing these workflows, helping developers code faster and save up to 30% of their time. While many in Coimbatore’s developer community might not have been familiar with these innovations, the recent AWS Builders Hub conference brought the benefits of cloud technology and generative A.I. to the forefront.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), renowned globally for offering reliable, scalable, and cost-effective cloud computing solutions, partnered with PSG iTech, a premier higher education institution in Coimbatore, to organize this mega event.

The conference gathered an impressive mix of student and professional developers, industry experts, entrepreneurs, and technology leaders to share insights into emerging technologies. Totally, 1000+ members attended.

When asked about the vision behind hosting such a large-scale event in Coimbatore, Anupam Mishra, Director of Solution Architecture at AWS India and South Asia, emphasized AWS’s commitment to nurturing tech communities and academia.

“The talent industries need often come from academia,” Mishra noted. “It's crucial to provide academia with the right guidance by connecting them with industry veterans, allowing them to share insights on current technologies. This prepares students for the industry of tomorrow.”

During his address at the conference, Anupam Mishra also touched upon how AWS’s generative A.I. tools, can complete routine tasks performed by IT administrators, senior software engineers, and interns in mere minutes that on the other hand takes hours.

Amazon has migrated tens of thousands of production applications from Java 8 or 11 to Java 17 with assistance from Amazon Q Developer. This represents a savings of over 4,500 years of development work for over a thousand developers (when compared to manual upgrades) and performance improvements worth $260 million dollars in annual cost savings.

“Generative A.I. is evolving rapidly and unlocking new opportunities,” Mishra explained. “This transformation, coupled with cloud technology, is something every developer, student, and educator should be aware of. We are bringing these modern AWS tools to Coimbatore, not as a one-off event, but as part of a recurring effort to nurture a thriving tech ecosystem here,” he shared.

Another prominent speaker, Bhuvaneswari Subramani, Chief Cloud Evangelist at Intuitive.Cloud, highlighted the significance of attending such events. Intuitive.Cloud is a USA-based global cloud innovation company, and Subramani emphasized how these gatherings can be an eye-opener for many, exposing them to the latest trends in the tech industry.

“I took a small step and attended my first community event in 2017. Then I started attending such meetings every month.” she said. “I used to be the only woman at such events, but that didn’t hold me back. The learning and community support were incredible. Fast forward to 2024, and I’ve now presented at 100 sessions globally. I’ve spoken at AWS re:Invent, AWS’s global cloud computing conference, for four consecutive years, and I became the first Indian woman to receive AWS Hero recognition.”

She underlined that events such as Builders Hub are great opportunities for women in tech to learn and share and get empowered.
