The 10.1 km long Avinashi Road Flyover works may take upto October 2024 to get completed according to a recent report.

24,000 sq.m land in 8 wards of the city corporation needs to be acquired from 500 land owners here for various works.

A separate team under special DRO was formed for acquiring the land. Since it is a lengthy process, where the documents need to verified, compensation needs to be provided and the land needs to re-registered, there is a delay. In spite of this, the special DRO Mr.Jeeva said that 70% of the land acquisition is over, and the remaining 30% land will be acquired and handed over for the project in February.

65% of the construction works for this project is over. However, due to delay in land acquisition for the project, other works like setting up the ramps ( near Anna Statue, Nava India, Hopes College and Airport Road Junction), building 5 underpasses (at Lakshmi Mills Junction, PSG College of Technology, PSGR Krishnammal College for women, Hope College Junction and near KMCH) etc., are getting delayed.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) which will undertake the Coimbatore Metro Rail Project in the city has plans to to build underpasses for the Metro project. Hence the State Highways and CMRL will decide on this matter soon.

Besides these, laying road-tracks for the flyover is also expected to take some more time. Hence the majority of the flyover is expected to be over by the end of September or during early October, 2024.

The 4-lane flyover starts from Uppilipalayam near the police quarters and ends at the Goldwins near the KMCH. KNR Construction Ltd. which is building the flyover, started the construction work on December 2020.

Tamil Nadu Public Works Minister Velu reportedly wanted the project to be finished by August this year. However the work may take longer than expected, and get wrapped up only by October.
