An alumnus of a private higher educational institution in Coimbatore, who is currently an executive in a charitable organization in Tirunelveli has helped an octogenarian living in a home run by the Trust to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and hand over her savings of Rs.11,000 for the government’s flood relief activities.
Sureshkumar, Deputy Director of R-SOYA Trust who completed his Masters in Social Works from Sri Krishna Arts and Science College, Coimbatore shared that Pushpam (87) worked as maid after her husband died but she was eventually abandoned by her son and daughter.
She was spotted living in temples and public areas by volunteers of the Trust, and was taken to a home for the homeless managed by R-Soya Trust under National Urban Livelihood Mission in Tirunelveli. She was given care at the home, and the lady who kept saving whatever money she had received for providing maid service earlier, decided to donate the Rs.11,000 to the government in order to support victims of 2024 floods in Thoothukudi.
Sureshkumar reached K. Elambahavat, the collector of Thoothukudi and conveyed the wishes of the octogenarian. The collector responded by saying that he will facilitate the opportunity to make the elderly woman hand over her savings to Chief Minister while he visits the town on December 30th.
Pushpam happily handed over her savings to the Chief Minister in the presence of the collector, Thoothukudi MP and DMK Deputy General Secretary Kanimozhi and Minister of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Geetha Jeevan.
