The TN Government is expected to launch its new scheme to take tourists on a one-day trekking to 40 selected locations in the State. This will be executed by its official body for eco-tourism development in protected areas, Tamil Nadu Wilderness Experience Corporation (TNWEC).

Tourists and hiking enthusiasts who wish to undertake a one-day trekking in any of the selected 40 trekking routes in Tamil Nadu can soon book their slots online. The official website for this will soon be unveiled by the State’s Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, a report said.

These 40 locations across 18 forest divisions in the state have been identified for trekking activities and they are categorized into 3 levels – Easy, Moderate, and Tough. 400 persons have been trained as guides, and each trekking route will have 10 such guides. Only 15 persons will be allowed to participate in the trekking at a given time. The activity will focus on exploring the natural surroundings and it will not include camping.

In Coimbatore, 4 trekking routes have been identified – Sembukarai to Perumal Mudi (7 kms), Velliangiri (14 kms), Sadivayal to Siruvani (20 kms), and Kallar to Burliyar (4 kms). The rides will not be available year-long and will be limited to certain periods. All participants undertaking trekking will get insurance coverage, sources shared. The booking website will include details of the tariff, complimentary benefits, duration etc.
