Since December 1, 2024, Happy Streets, organized jointly by The Times of India, Coimbatore Corporation, and City Police, has been bringing Coimbatoreans together on Sunday mornings.
Whether at DB Road or CODISSIA Road, the city woke up early to groove to everything from the energetic parai beats to the funky rhythms of the DJ. The 2025 season of the Season concluded at CODISSIA Road this Sunday.
Games that are rarely played today, Snakes and Ladders, rolling tires, goli, spinning tops (bambaram), were all part of the fun. Happy Streets had something for everyone.
From face painting to nail art, kids and grandparents alike enjoyed the experience, proudly flaunting their colorful designs to family and friends.
Teenagers, often criticized for being glued to their phones, said they loved the chance to step outside, spin tops, enjoy music, and capture memories with endless photos. Many hoped such events would become a regular part of city life.
Mothers reminisced about childhood dreams of rolling a tire with a stick, something they were never allowed to do in their own neighborhoods. At Happy Streets, they made sure their kids got to experience it, this time alongside them.
Happy Streets were amazing but the sad part is that it has ended. Well, it is just goodbye for now. Let's hope Happy Streets return in 2026, bigger, grander and cooler.
