Of all the 365 days in a year, 25th of January is very special to thousands of people living in Coimbatore and beyond.
You may ask "Why?"
In 1926 (that is 97 years ago) on this day, the four sons of a prosperous man named P.S.Govindaswamy Naidu voluntarily set aside Rs. 2,01,116 worth property they inherited from their ancestors for the sake of rendering charity.
They were PSG Venkataswamy Naidu, PSG Rangaswamy Naidu, PSG Ganga Naidu and PSG Narayanaswamy Naidu.
That sum of Rs. 2 lakhs was something of astronomical proportions back then; maybe something like a million dollars or more for sure.
The four sons laid the foundation for PSG Institutions in the Peelamedu region.
They led to the formation of PSG & Sons' Charities that run PSG Group of Institutions in Coimbatore. Their successors continued in their path to establish various educational and health institutions, which today provided world class education to several thousands of young minds, especially to those coming from humble backgrounds.
Over the years, several institutions were established, and they have produced numerous visionary entrepreneurs, academicians, bureaucrats, health care professionals, Technocrats, artists and statesmen.
It must be mentioned that the PSG Manavar Illam started by PSG & Sons' Charities has been the Home that supported thousands of promising children who lost a parent, and helped them receive free and quality education, accommodation and inclusiveness.
The PSG Hospitals has also healed innumerable patients and has stood by when the underprivileged section of society needed its help.
It has stood as a tall example for other similar Group of Institutions to rise in Coimbatore and in other parts of this country.
PSG has played a phenomenal role in Coimbatore's growth and has supported its aspirations to elevate to a city of excellence.
Hence on this day, the PSG Institutions, its trustees, heads of institutions, members of staff pay tribute to the Founders.
The 97th Founders' Day Celebrations of PSG & Sons' Charities was held on Wednesday.
L.Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee, PSG & Sons' Charities presided over the event.
At the occasion, accomplished alumni of various PSG Institutions who continue to be the flag bearers of PSG were chosen and were honoured with the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Awards.
