Dr.N.Gopalakrishnan, Member Secretary, Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu was the Chief Guest. D.Lakshminarayanaswamy, Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust presided over this program.
Speaking at the event, Dr.N.Gopalakrishnan said that unorganised-sector employees and farmers in India are the most to suffer Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown etiology(CKDU), a kind of kidney disease that occurs in people who expose themselves more in the sun, inhale polluted air and don't take adequate water. He cautioned that we may see rise in various diseases even if the earth's temperature increases by 1 degree Celsius.
Talking about organ donation, he said the need for kidney and liver for transplantation is huge but the availability of organs is low in Tamil Nadu. But when it is compared with the national average, Tamil Nadu's demand and donation ratio looks good.
Prior to COVID, 6000 people in the State had registered with Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN) for Kidney transplant but the exact figures after covid is being recalculated.
He said more awareness about organ donation can be the solution to help people needing organ while more awareness about the environment and our physical health and their proper maintenance can help us prevent unnecessary organ failures or dysfunctions.
