At the 2024 World Chess Championship in Singapore, 18-year old Gukesh from India defeated the defending champion, China's Ding Liren, to become the youngest World Chess Champion. Gukesh is the second Indian after Vishwanathan Anand to earn this prestigious honor.
When he was 12 years old, Gukesh expressed his dream to become the chess champion of the world in an interview. A video of that is now going viral on social media sites.
Congratulating Gukesh on his victory, Chief Minister MK Stalin said that this remarkable achievement helps Chennai reaffirm its place as the global Chess Capital by producing yet another world-class champion. Tamil Nadu is proud of you," the CM said.
