The Chief Engineer of State Highways Department Satya Prakash inspected the Western Bypass project site on Wednesday, and conveyed that 40% of the works in the first phase have been completed. The authorities have set August 2025 as the target to complete this phase.
The project began on August 11, 2023. The 32.42 km long, four lane bypass which begins at Mayilkal/Madukkarai and ends at Narasimhanaickenpalayam, is designed to take the vehicles heading to Mettupalayam, Ooty and Mysuru from Kerala through it, thereby reducing the traffic snarls inside the city.
The first phase is from Madukkarai (Mayilkal) to Madhampatti (11.80 kms). The second phase, from Madhampatti to Kanuvai (12.10 kms) and third phase, from Kanuvai to Narasimhanaickenpalayam (8.52 kms).
95% of land acquisition work for the 2nd phase is over. An estimate for Rs.330 crore has been prepared for this phase. Already Rs.111.83 crore has been allotted for acquiring lands for this phase, and works are expected to commence soon. Meanwhile, land acquisition for 3rd phase is going on. An estimate for Rs.220 crore has been prepared for this phase.
